Hotel 626

i have been trying to researchinto somethings other than scary films to get ideas from and i have come across a very thrilling game called Hotel 626. Hotel 626 is a very popular online game in which you can only play between 6pm to 6am.it chooses these hours as its suppost to scare you whilst your playing it which is the idea of the game so it tells you to turn down the lights and place headphones on.The music in this game is really good for the theme of this game as it really makes yor heart pump faster and builds up tension. and the way it is edited like the angles and shots are really useful as we can gain ideas from it. here is a small preview of the game that i have found on the internet.

Our Opening Music

We have had a look for opening music that would fit perfectly until we came across this song on YouTube, we have thought and planned when this will be played and how it will look, at the moment it seems to fit in with our theme so therefore this will be the soundtrack we'll use.

Our Main Characters So far

This is Poppy Massey our main character playing Connie Williams.

This is me, I will only be playing a small part as being the Nurse.

Outfits

In the beginning of our opening scene, Connie ( Poppy Massey ) will be wearing a hospital gown. This is because she will be currently in a mental institute therefore her outfit is vital to the film. we got this from the hospital that Katie's auntie works for as it is a spare that we are allowed to borrow for this piece of filming.

Also in the beginning i will be shown as the Nurse, therefore we will need to dress me in a Nurse's outfit. we got this outfit from Katies auntie as she is a nurse and can lend us her uniform.

Story for The Possessive

Production Diary

- September 5th: This was my first Media Lesson, we got taught the basics about BlogSpot and even created our own, this was helpful to do during the first lesson because it meant we could log on in our free periods and practice how to used it.
- September 10th: todays lesson we got taught about film openings and how we were to make our own, the main features that we got told me had to make sure we done were: to include a production logo, a title, an establishing genre, the location and the main characters. This helped everyone's understanding as we did not learn about this in GCSE.
- September 11th: We was put into groups, mine being with kayleigh, toby and harry and we were told to create a presentation on the opening of any film. We picked harry potter because it was a really interesting opening. We made links with the genre of the film to how the characters, music and setting was showed. This made it clear to us all how important the first minute or two is in the opening scene.
- September 13th: Today we wen through the camera shots and angles, because some students in our class did not take media for GCSE, me for example. Camera work is important as it can change the way you see the film and the characters. We was set homework to annotate six different camera shots on a film of our choice and present them to the class.
- September 17th: We analysed still images from different movies to improve our understanding. This allowed us to become more clear on what to look for, for example Mise-En-Scene, characters, setting, icons/props. The examples we looked at were from 'The Shinning' and 'You've Got Mail'. The Shinning was shown clearly to us as the audience what genre the film was and was proven easy for us to annotate, but You've Got Mail was deceiving and we was all very surprised to find out it was a Rom-Com. When making my opening scene, I will aim to make my genre as clear as possible as I feel that it is important.
- September 19th: We were put into groups and given a certain genre, then we were asked to go off and take photos in the style of our genres. My group was me, kayleigh and Reagan. we given the genre drama for a young audience. We found an ideal setting to take our photos, which was in the actual drama hall at our school. We took various shots, mainly of children in our school acting out for us.
- September 23rd: Today we individual planned our own film. It was a brief summary including the actors and characters they will play, the genre, the setting and the age it is targeted at and suited for. This was a practice for when we come to making our real film, we will know what to include.
- September 3rd: This lesson we was given our Preliminary Task. We have to, as a group, create a short film which includes the following: two characters, one walking through the door to meet the other sitting down and a short dialogue. Also we had to include certain camera shots, these were a match on action, 180-degree rule and a shot/reverse shot. My group, katie, Toby and Harry decided that it would be easier to create our film if we made a storyboard and a script. When we had finished creating our storyboard, we went off to film. We realised that some of our ideas we had put on the storyboard were not capable therefore we had to make some small arrangements.
- September 7th: This lesson we watched a small clip on Todorov's Narrative, The Male Gaze Theory and the Reception Theory as I was unaware of what they all were. I made PowerPoints on them which helped me understand them.
- September 8th: Today we used the editing program Adobe. None of us had used it before therefore we had to use trial and error. As a group we took turns in editing something different of the film, this way everyone got used to the program.
  - September 11th: A second preliminary task was set which was to re-make the start of Juno. We were given storyboard guides which had spaces blank for the shot, time, transition, what happens and the sound. I watched the opening scene over and over again so I could accurately fill in the spaces. This will help me a lot as when I come to filming with my group, Katie, Daisy and Poppy, we will know exactly what shot we need to make and how long for etc.
- September 14th - 22nd: For this whole week my group spent filming. We had lots of complications as one of our group members dropped Media, therefore we had to re do our whole filming. Luckily it was earlier on in the process so we was not that far behind everyone else. We all worked very hard to get the filming. We was all creative with our ideas for how and where we would film the shot. A few of the days me and our team members kept forgetting the props needed therefore, to have the filming done on time, we had to improvise with what ever we could find. We learnt that we all need to work together more on reminding each other and taking responsibilities of our duties.
  - September 24th: Today Poppy and Katie edited the footage as I was ill. they did not have time to finish this as we had a few complications finding the camera at the beginning of the lesson and seeing as this was our last lesson before half term we could not finish this. As soon as we have a free together we will complete this task.

Uses and Gratification theory

Uses and Gratification Theory Uses and Gratification Theory Uses and Gratification theory focuses on ‘what people do with media’ rather than ‘what media does to people’. It is a popular apporach to understanding mass communicaiton. The theory suggests that people use media, not only for entertainment as such; but for also to meet their needs in specific moments in their lives. This approach has implied that the media now have to compete to grab the attention of their viewers needs and gratification. This has created a theory that the media must find ways to engage the audience, whether it be through their past or current experiences/ emotions; and make it appeal to them. An example of uses and gratification would be ‘Personal Identification’, this would be linking to me, so for example a film that I find links to me in a personal aspect would be mean girls. This would be because it is a modern film, set in a high school with older teens. The plot is about girl friends; it also contains alot of humour. The reason why I chose this film is because I am still in school and spend the majority of time with my friends. Another form of uses and gratifications theory is ‘Information’ for example a film with a historical background, a reason why I would watch a film like this would be because I want to learn a bit about histotry and generations. A few examples are; Gladiator, this is set in Ancient Greek times; and focuses alot on the romans a few other films that are similar are Troy, and also One Million Years BC which is a 1966 British adventure/fantasy film; set in the time of cavemen. As well as Personal Identification and Information, a popular gratification is ‘Entertainment’ in other words, the porducers have to try and make sure that what the viewers are consuming gives them enjoyment and also enables them to forget about their current problems. A film I would watch for entertainment would be Jurrassic Park, this is because its an action film so it takes all of my attention away from anything else and I focus on the storyline. Another reason why I find it entertaining is because the actors are young so they easily relate to me. Lastly, ‘social interaction’ the kind of thing I would watch on TV to spark social interaction would be Waterloo road, or Britains got talent. This is because it produces a topic and almost a topic that everyone has in common. And also if I was watching it with someone our reactions and comments would be entertaining. And it would also start debates and opinionated conversations. A popular critisism about the Uses and Gratifications theory is that the public and their thoughts and feelings have control what the media do. Which isnt right because the media has responsibility for the influences it puts over the publics lives.
